About Us
Pretty Girls Making Cool Shit was created in 2018 by friends and artists, Lisa Britton and Alejandra “Alexa” Orozco.
In the Summer of 2018, Lisa reached out to Alexa, frustrated about her art career/day job. Alexa’s response to her friend was “Hey we’re pretty girls making cool shit, there’s no reason we shouldn’t make it…. Haha that sounds like a blog or podcast or something.” We joked about “Oh yeah our blog/podcast/youtube whatever” and finally one day said “Why don’t we really do that?”
While pretty is in our title, it is certainly not our main focus and we were never the “pretty girls” in school.
Our mission is to provide empowerment and support to emerging and professional female artists while being fun and informative. We are so glad you are here and hope you enjoy it!

First of all, thank you for your interest in our blog! Your support means the world to us! If you are interested in being featured on our blog/Instagram, please email submissions@prettygirlsmakingcoolshit.com with subject :Submission: First Name Last Name. Please include your artist bio and statement, 4-6 images of your work, minimum 72dpi, and a headshot or photo of you and your work (optional). We do not have capacity to reply to each submission, but please know that we read and appreciate every one!

We love a good party and are honored you would like to celebrate with us. That being said, we are not able to share personal announcements on our website or social media at this time. We may give each other a birthday shout out, but out of fairness to all of our featured artists and readers, this is a precedent that we are unable to set.

We ask for a photo of the artist not to show off their looks, but to show that we are featuring all kinds of female artists with all kinds of looks/bodies as a way to offset the concerns about it being about who is “prettiest”.
It is nice to have a face to the name/artwork and many art galleries and blogs feature an artist headshot on their website. If you are not comfortable submitting a photo, no worries, we get it! A photo is optional and not required.
