Amanda Baby Pie
We were instantly impressed with the creative, repurposed fiber sculptures created by Australian artist Amanda Jane aka Baby Pie! She creates colorful creatures out of reused and repurposed materials, which where selected as a finalist in the Sustainable Waste Art Prize. She has an upcoming solo exhibition at the Bondi Pavilion Gallery March 10-15, with an opening Wednesday March 11, we had to share her work and celebrate along with her!
These colorful, welcoming creatures have a surprising origin story. Amanda wasn't an artist until a car accident changed her life. After being trapped in her vehicle for several hours, she suffered a head injury and was put in a medically induced coma and hospitalized for three months, coming out with broken bones, memories, and emotions. The healing process took time, and eventually, she to consider ways to reinvent herself, and rummaging through her home and flea markets for other items to reinvent as well. She began making a life size dog using multicolored wax with a pill on his tongue called "Fixing the Black Dog". After a friend helped her organize and plan her first exhibition, Fixing the Black Dog would go on to be the first creature she sold, and her first exhibition
Her intent is for her work to spread happiness, we hope they have brought as much joy to you as they have to us!
