Candace Jahn
Who are we kidding? She had us with the gummy cherries.
We are happy to share these untraditional approaches to photography from the incredible Candace Jahn. Motivated by “seeing without looking” she seeks a nonconventional lens, often working with scanners. She has shown work on the East and West US Coasts, including Duplex Gallery (Portland, Oregon), Disjecta Contemporary Arts Center (Portland, Oregon), Photographic Resource Center (Boston, Massachusetts) and The Gallery 13 (Asbury Park, New Jersey). Her impressive resume includes earning her BA in Art and Education with a concentration in Photography from Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey and her MFA in Visual Studies from Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon. She attended the Caldera Arts residency in Fall 2014 and was the recipient of the Society of Photographic Education Mid-Atlantic Scholarship in 2011.
Jahn explains her work further:
There is an indulgence to life: I overeat, I overspend, I overthink. The lines between having control and losing it often blur. Like when a dependable body decides it’s no longer reliable, it hijacks the one thing you are supposed to have agency over. Through humor, vulnerability and a process that hides no detail, I am able to explore an alternative approach to process the multiples ways I’ve lost touch with my body and gained appreciation back.
