Erica Helder
We love these moody, stylized landscapes by Canadian artist, Erica Helder. She challenges traditional portrayals of Canadian landscape painting and brings a fresh approach to each scene she creates.
Erica had been interested in art since childhood, and studied under Canadian painter Kaye Crabtree, who taught her photorealism while recreating photographs of Canadian landscapes. While she describes herself as being disenchanted with the art world for a time, she began seriously pursue art and started sharing paintings on social media after her mothers passing in 2016. Her work developed into stylized landscapes based on a love on embracing imperfections and and her training photorealism.
Erica explains more about this series and her approach to art:
My pieces dance between abstract and landscape, capturing the light and movement of the changing seasons and the forms and colors of the natural environment. Playing between a minimalist representation of nature and a bohemian styling of color and texture, each piece calls to the observer in a different way.
While I can't change the entire art world, I can change my small corner of it. Art has only ever been in my life because it was made accessible to me. I will always work to keep my art accessible to you, because art should be accessible for everyone.
