Maj Askew

 

Stunning realistic portraits, botany, and touches of surrealism, Maj Askew invites the viewed to consider various origins of identity, often by using digital and tradition media to create carefully rendered subject.

Maj Askew is an exhibiting artist who utilizes traditional and digital media to explore ideas of identity, iteration, and archetype. Composing the human figure and gesture in symbolic space to convey emotional experience, she simultaneously taps into both literary and mythological themes.

Maj was born in the American Midwest, into a family deeply-entrenched in the book business. She spent her childhood traveling first the United States and then the internationally, absorbing literature and culture voraciously. In 2004 she moved to the Seattle area, and in 2010 she graduated magna cum laude from Cornish College of the Arts with dual concentrations in both Painting and Photography.

She has shown her work across the United States, and currently works out of her studio in the Seattle area.
