Natasja de Wet
Paintings with amazing textures and colors, mixed media sculptures, and she has been featured in multiple biennials?! We are starstruck by the impressive work of South African artist Natasja de Wet. We hope you enjoy learning about her work as much as we did!
South African artist, Natasja de Wet, studied fine art and graphic design at the Tschwane University of Technology, and continued to study drawing and painting at the University of South Africa (UNISA). After becoming interested in portraying human psyche in art, she studied psychophonetics at Persephone College. In 2017, she completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Fine Art at the Michaelis School of Fine Art (University of Cape Town), graduating with distinction.
She describes her work as aiming to reveal the inner character, or soft underbelly of human kind. Use of mixed media and assemblage allow her examine internal experiences such as growth, insecurity, sexuality, flux, and various expressions of the human psyche.
Recently, her solo exhibition Melancholia, was shown at the Pathology Museum, UCT Pathology Learning Centre in Cape Town. She has shown work throughout South Africa (including biennials), as well as the Florence Biennale in 2009, Turkey, The Netherlands, and Finland.
