Rachel O’Donnell

We can't get enough of the mixed media work by Rachel O'Donnell! Her dedication and passion for her craft is apparent; she was a natural choice to feature on the blog!

Declared a “strong artist of the future” by art critic, Jerry Saltz, Rachel O’Donnell is a Dallas, Texas born artist currently based out of the Los Angeles area. With a BFA in Fine Art from Pratt Institute, her work has been shown at galleries such as, The Painting Center in New York City, The Segram Building, New Image Art, Ruckus Gallery and at the original “Nasty Women Art Exhibition” in New York. She has also been featured in the New York Times reviewed Bushwick Open Studios twice and at London's 'Parallax Art Fair' in the United Kingdom. Additionally, she has a permanent four-foot tall installation on Sunset Boulevard outside the Alter Los Angeles store and has a limited edition print currently available with the New York art publisher, Von Zos. Working primarily in portraiture, Rachel O’Donnell’s work is known for its intriguing use of colors and expressionist qualities. Rachel creates her works at her studio located in East Hollywood.

O’Donnell’s use of color, media, and imagery engages the viewer, leaving you wanting more. She was able to give us this insight into her work:

Identity, gender roles and social norms are at the crux of my artwork. These constructed ideals shape us, the way we see and perceive our experiences and the way we relate to each other. Right now with our divided and conflicted cultural atmosphere, artists are investigating and interpreting what it means to be an 'American'. My work serves as a way for me to explore what it means to be a woman in America and how that identity is so varied and yet shared. Working primarily in portraiture, I create my collages, photos and paintings in my Los Angeles studio.
